Playa Escondida in Sayulita, a hidden paradise.

Playa Escondida is indeed the “Hidden Beach.” After piloting the rent-a-car through the jungle for 15 minutes, we came upon a little slice of the South Pacific, hidden less than an hour away from the center of Puerto Vallarta. But you DO need directions. The Hotel itself has an updated website with step by step instructions, complete with photos, and we found it with no problem. The website reads “We enjoy our privacy.” Brilliant!
“Paradise” is a common way to describe a beautiful beach setting, especially in Mexico, but Hotel Escondido is one of our planet’s true paradise destinations. Think Tahiti meets Costa Rica!
The Staff is excellent, the management has taken care with the music, room amenities, and restaurants, but the natural beauty of the hotel is simply overwhelming.
With waves crashing against the rocks, the bungalows peeking out of the jungle, and the peace and serenity of the hotel’s lounge areas, this is a hotel that will stay in your memories.
With only one night to explore, I only discovered a small piece of what the hotel has to offer. I swam in the ocean, sat by two of the hotel’s pools, read, saw a few banana trees, and enjoyed two meals at a world class restaurant. Had I known about this jewel of a hotel, I would have stayed all week and walked down to Sayulita for my surfing lessons. The walk is 20 minutes and you need directions(!) but if you want to be a beach bum during the day and stay in the Garden of Eden at night, playa Escondida is for you.
