With a completely new curatorial team, the next edition of the fair is shaping up to be a turning point in its history. “The 2026 edition, which will take place from February 4 to 7, will be a firm step in the evolution of the fair,” says Zélika García, director and founder of ZONAMACO. “We will have a renewed curatorial team—with figures such as Aimé Iglesias Lukin at ZONAMACO EJES, Manuela Moscoso at ZONAMACO SUR, Cecilia León de la Barra at ZONAMACO DISEÑO, Esteban King at ZONAMACO Arte Moderno, Luis Graham at ZONAMACO Foto, and the duo of Alfonso Miranda and Mario Uvence at ZONAMACO Salón del Anticuario—which will bring fresh energy to the event. It will be an edition with curatorial proposals that will shape the conversation.”.

Since its founding, ZONAMACO has been key to consolidating the Mexican art ecosystem. “Fairs are vital hubs: they allow galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions to connect,” he explains. “In the case of ZONAMACO, its role has been fundamental in strengthening collecting in Mexico and paving the way for Latin American art on the global scene. With the vision of curators such as Lukin and Moscoso, we have managed to spread these discourses beyond our borders and position them on the international map.”

A PLATFORM FOR DIALOGUE AND DISCOVERY

In a context of transformation for the art world, galleries are adapting to new forms of exhibition and commercialization. “They are experimenting with new formats, narratives, and ways of reaching different audiences. Today, they combine the physical with the digital, the commercial with the experimental. ZⓈONAMACO offers a stage to showcase this dynamic, and the support of its curators helps to give space to these proposals,” says its founder.

Looking ahead to 2026, the fair’s curatorial and commercial approach continues to be refined. “Our goal is to maintain a balance between the commercial and the curatorial. We want collectors to find pieces of high value, but also to discover proposals that challenge and expand their horizons. After twenty-two editions, the fair continues to be a space where tradition and contemporaneity find a dialogue.”

ZONAMACO also continues to be a breeding ground for emerging artists. “They are an essential part of what we do. Many of the artists who are now circulating internationally started at ZONAMACO. Our curatorial team is very attentive to emerging voices that are representative of the moment. This gives them the opportunity to connect with collectors and curators from around the world and to project their careers beyond Mexico.”

For García, Mexico City’s role as an artistic epicenter is no coincidence. “Because Mexico City is now a global cultural hub. Every February, it becomes a meeting point for institutions, collectors, and artists from different latitudes. Consolidating fairs such as ZONAMACO means maintaining that flow, giving our scene international visibility, and reaffirming Mexico as the epicenter of art in Latin America.”
