Pepe Bezaury “Shakes”

Pepe is one of the creative minds behind projects that define Mexico's culture and nightlife, from the Trópico festival to Salón Acme and Mezcal Unión. As an architect of experiences, his work focuses on making the city pulse. Who better than him, then, to guide us through the capital's creative heartbeat?

Recognized for being one of the founders of Salón Acme and Archipiélago, Pepe is also the creator of projects such as the Trópico festival in Acapulco, the Leonor club, the Ayer, Café and Jardín Paraíso; as well as the Cancino and Taverna restaurants, in addition to injecting his ingenuity and experience to create Mezcal Unión. Below, he tells us about his favorite places in Mexico City.

Why do you like living in Mexico City?

Because it is a vibrant city. The creative and cultural center formed by the neighborhoods of Roma, Condesa, Juarez and the surrounding area is like no other city in the world.

Where is your favorite place to walk?

Amsterdam Avenue in Condesa or Paseo de La Reforma.

Your favorite outdoor space?

The Bosque de Chapultepec, I enjoy it very much.

What galleries do you visit regularly?

Galería OMR and Kurimanzutto, I recommend them without looking around.

Where would you take your friends who come to visit for shopping?

To Proyecto Rufina, it’s in Condesa, or 1/8 Takamura, which is in Juarez.

And where would you take them to eat?

Contramar is an excellent classic if you want something fresh because they specialize in fish and seafood, but also La Taverna, with Mediterranean dishes.

To enjoy the night, where would you recommend us to go to drink?

For a pre-drink at El Caimán, and ask for one of their martinis. Later in the evening, the Ayer.

What are your must-see places in the city?

Bellas Artes, El Zócalo and the combo Anthropology - Tamayo Museum.
