From her earliest memories in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, to her fascination with Mexican art and culture, this artist has traveled a path full of passion and dedication. Through her unique style, influenced by surrealism and the traditions of her native land, she has managed to make a special connection with the European public, bringing the essence of Mexico to Paris. In this interview, he tells us about his creative process, his influences, and how he has managed to bring the beauty of his country to the most important museums in Europe.
I grew up in Zihuatanejo. My mom is from Mexico City and every summer she took us to the city’s museums. When I was seven, she took us to the Diego Rivera Mural Museum. For me, it was more impressive than going to Disney. I couldn’t understand how one person could have painted all that. The use of color and the detail in each character impressed me. After that visit, I wanted to know everything about that person. My mom bought me a book by Diego Rivera, there I discovered that he had been in Paris for a while and my curiosity for art and Paris began.
I seek to share Mexican culture through art, give a space to women and create a bond of magical realism through the beauty of Mexican folklore. For my work I use a mixed technique, I like to mix oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and pencil colors. The color palette is almost always inspired by flowers, I like to think that nature created the perfect color combinations. It depends on my mood whether the work I imagine is on watercolor paper or on canvas. My favorites are the large canvases, although when I am traveling I do the first small version.
I came to Paris 8 years ago to do a master’s degree in fashion business. Although art has always been my passion, there was a time when I felt I could not dedicate myself to art alone. So I came to Paris to do a master’s degree. Thanks to this experience, I managed to create contacts and start to dedicate myself 100% to my passion. Currently, I also work and collaborate for luxury brands such as Dior, Chanel, Guerlain, Melgar, among others.
Mexico is a surreal, magical place, full of humor and culture. I think I am in love with my country and, through art, my only goal is to make people fall in love with it as well. Currently, I am working on a collection of works that portray migratory grief. I would like to exhibit them in 2025 and, of course, I am involved in various projects with the Mexican Cultural Institute in France, some museums in Paris, among other things.
