In Mexico City—where the real and the fantastic often brush against each other without warning—a new exhibition invites visitors to cross that threshold with intention. Starting April 22, 2026, the Centro de las Artes Inmersas opens its doors to Leonora Carrington: Magical Labyrinth, a journey not meant to be simply observed, but experienced from within.

The transition is almost imperceptible. Light dims, sound envelops, and time seems to slow. What follows is not a conventional exhibition but a spatial construction shaped as a labyrinth—a recurring metaphor in the work of Leonora Carrington. Here, each turn raises a question rather than offering an answer.

The original sculptures—both the starting point and the axis of the project—appear as living presences within carefully designed environments. They are not placed on pedestals; they are inhabited. Visitors move among them as subtle aromas, unexpected textures, and shifting light compose atmospheres that echo both alchemy and the unconscious. There is something deeply intimate in this passage, as though each room were an extension of the artist’s mind.

Developed by the Consejo Leonora Carrington in collaboration with Cocolab, the project achieves a rare balance: it maintains curatorial rigor while embracing technological innovation. Archival research underpins every aesthetic decision, allowing Carrington’s symbolic universe—infused with Kabbalah, Jungian psychology, and Tibetan Buddhism—to unfold in a contemporary language without losing its depth.

Over the course of the 45-minute experience, visitors shift from observers to participants. At times, it feels like stepping into a lucid dream: hybrid figures emerge from the shadows, darkness seems to breathe, and spaces invite you to linger longer than expected. The goal is not to decode every symbol, but to be moved by them.

This exhibition also marks a milestone: it is among the first instances in which original sculptures by an artist of this stature are presented within a fully immersive, sensory format. The result is not merely a reinterpretation, but an expansion of her work.

As part of the cultural corridor of the Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2026, Magical Labyrinth is poised to become a must-visit for international travelers. Beyond the global sporting moment, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to enter one of the most fascinating artistic minds of the 20th century from an entirely new perspective.

Leaving the labyrinth does not mean leaving it behind. Something lingers: an image, a sensation, an unresolved question. Perhaps that is the true magic of Leonora Carrington—a reminder that art, like dreams, is not meant to be explained, but experienced.
